The elephant (dinghy) in the room

Can’t sleep thinking about the damn dinghy. The damn big-ass dinghy. After the departure debacle yesterday Lawson figured the dinghy was too big to store on top of the boat as we should for crossing. Turns out the dinghy dragging behind us and getting caught on the boat in front of us was what made the boat stay to the right and barely clear that boat in front of us. So the big-ass dinghy almost made us crash out of the gate. Lawson says if it wasn’t that it would have been something else. As the wise words of Rosanna Rosanna Dana – “It’s always something!” Or in the words of Captain Ron, “If something is going to happen it’s going to happen out there.” Well for us, it happened eight feet off the dock.

Anyway, no harm no foul but now we have to find a new dinghy. Lawson’s going to get out the measuring tape tomorrow – fully deflated the damn thing may fit on deck – we’ll see. Or it’s cha-ching time once again. Thank god the zero percent credit cards are making a comeback or we’d be screwed.

I’m glad we did finally get off that dock we were on though – strange being in someone’s back yard. The people at the city marina here have been very kind. We have been able to walk to everything here, which has turned out great for Tristan. Yesterday we went to the children’s museum and he had a blast. Then last night after glorious real showers we walked around the downtown area where there was live music and a gazillion bouncy houses for kids so T loved it. The whole area here along the river walk is very nice – lots of cool historic stuff which we missed mucho in Las Vegas. Funny thing the announcer said on stage: supposed to be snowing in Las Vegas today – say what?!

Well battery is about to die so I better try to get some more shut eye. Who knows what tomorrow will bring? Initial plan now is to head out and drop the anchor in Biscayne Bay Area. Hopefully tomorrow will also bring a new, smaller dinghy.

My brother lived in Lauderdale for many years and I always loved our visits to that area. Glad you’ve enjoyed your time there and are getting closer to launching!
