“Dunch” in Little Farmers Cay

Dunch is a term we created today of our eating habits as of late: having breakfast but then having such a late lunch that it’s almost dinner. We’ve also been going to bed early – about the same time as T – and getting up with him at his usual crack of dawn.
But anyway – yesterday at our anchorage by the pig beach – we never made it over to see the pigs because the wind was blowing and it was too rough to risk it – we’re still newbies on the dinghy. It blew like crazy last night and we barely got any sleep. Luckily the wind died down enough this morning for Lawson to get the dinghy motor up on the boat and we headed out the cut to the deep blue to motor sail to our next stop – Little Farmers Cay.
This place is as beautiful as the last two spots. We got on a mooring ball then I took a long shower. (Used up a quarter tank of water!) But I needed it. I feel SO much better. I was getting smarmy. (Another new term we have embraced on this hiatus.) Then we hopped on the dinghy and went into town.
And small town it is. A population of 50. I think we met/saw about half on our shore excursion. We walked to a little beach bar that was closed, then found the yacht club to pay for our mooring. We were met by Roosevelt, the very gracious owner and host who took our food order and served us drinks – even played a game of pool with us. We were the only ones there most of the time. Our “dunch” took probably an hour to make because his wife had to drive over to cook it. By the time we ate it was probably four o clock. Then we had to hike back over to the dinghy dock before the bugs came out. A lot of the town’s children were out playing but being the dinghy newbies that we are we couldn’t linger – hoping to get back tomorrow so T can make some friends. Got safely back on the boat and Lawson fished – almost caught a snapper but it got away. He had snapper for dunch and I had cracked conch – it was the first meal out in a while and it was so good – seafood so fresh! We are going to get serious about fishing now and catching some of our own.
Everyone on this island that we encountered today was so friendly. I hope we get to go onshore some more but a big blow is coming in tomorrow – that is why we are on the mooring. I hope we get a snorkel in because the water here is so crystal clear – just looking around off the side of our boat is surreal.
