False start

We were all set to leave yesterday for our crossing back to Florida. Since we had traveled 13 hours from Chub Cay to Bimini we thought our engine troubles were behind us. But once we got out of the harbor and channel the engine died. Lawson promptly turned us around, got on the radio and called for help. A local tow boat showed up shortly and ran alongside us to see if we still needed help but at this point Lawson was able to keep the engine going at an idle and we slowly slunk back into a slip at Brown’s. All the friendly people we had just said goodbye to were there to help us tie up once again.

One guy – I am embarrassed to say I’m unsure of his name, but he has been very kind and helpful to us. He bought a charter boat as well and was familiar with the shakedown process. Lawson and he tinkered while we tried to secure a mechanic. One was supposed to come around five pm but never showed. Today we have one lined up at noon, island time willing.

Meanwhile, T and I are attempting to do a full day’s schoolwork, sitting out at the marina tables as the sea breeze blows and the roosters crow. If he EVER gets finished we’ll go walk along the shore and search for sea glass. Now we will probably be here until the next weather window…looking like Friday.
