Leaving Bimini (knock on wood!)

Tomorrow morning we leave to cross to Florida. Hopefully we should get farther than last time. The engine is fixed. I would try to explain the repair but will get it all wrong ( Lawson had informed me that some of my other posts had been incorrect in regard to various mechanical explanations, but whatever).Suffice it to say the mechanic finally showed and fixed it. We also discovered that we are supposed to be using a different size filter and while the only shop in Bimini selling it has been closed all week, the kind fellow boaters had extras and sold them to Lawson.

So today has been a sort of Groundhog Day of celebrating, once again, our last day in The Bahamas with conch salad, conch fritters and cold Kaliks at Joe’s Conch Shack, which incidentally is an actual SHACK. We walked along the beach to get there, taking in the last majestic views of the spectacular blue waters. We’re heading back over there later to swim – swam yesterday too and it’s so amazing how clear the water is. We can’t help but think that the beaches in Florida now are just never going to be able to compare.

But we are ready for Florida. I don’t think I will ever be so happy to see a box of Cheerios or Lucky Charms ( the only two T will eat and could not be found anywhere on Bimini). I am also ready for decent wine without paying a small fortune, among other things. What I’m not ready for is to go back to work – but then who is ever ready for that?

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that I am also REALLY ready to have my phone back so I can call my family and receive my emails, etc.

So the basic float plan:

Friday/Sat. Miami

Sunday Rodrigez Key

Monday Boot Key

Tuesday Shark River

Wednesday Naples

Thursday Ft. Myers

Friday Venice

Saturday Sarasota

Sunday St. Pete

Of course who in the hell knows – if we’ve learned anything this trip it’s that it all depends on the weather!
