Abandoning ship

Well, T and I are anyway. The weather is just not cooperating – couldn’t leave yesterday and even today we were looking at seven hours in high seas and then an anchorage that is not protected because the wind is not the right direction. Unfortunately, our other options would be to go on for another six hours or wait until Saturday. So the grand decision was made to tie the boat up at a marina in Miami, rent a car and drive back to St. Pete. Then Lawson will return on Friday and do the rest of the trip (a few stops in the keys, Naples, Ft. Myers, Venice) – if anyone wants a free sail through this route he is looking for crew!

T and I need to get back to school and work. But all in all, it was a good hiatus. We visited dozens of different places and I think I’ve finally overcome my fear of docking the boat. I dare say I’ve even gotten quite good at working the ropes and jumping off the boat when I’ve needed to. I would also venture to say that the shakedown on Curlew is pretty much complete as well. Though there will always be something. It is, after all, that hole in the water you throw money into. Well, signing off for now. I’m a bit under the weather and looking forward to sleeping in a bed for the first time in about 10 weeks.

Safe travels on the car ride back and looking forward to hearing where you “land” and the next set of adventures in St. Pete.
