Back at the lux marina, we decided to walk to one of the local places for lunch. It took about a half-hour but we were rewarded with views of the spectacular water in between run down houses, trash, a few resorts and businesses. The place we ate at, D’s Spot, was right on the water but since it was so windy we ate inside. The beers were cold and the food was fine – though they were out of several items on the menu. There were several large parties and the service took forever though our waitress was cute as can be and appeared to be ten years old. The other waiter acted as her sidekick, fetching everything she forgot and delivering food. He had a goofy smile and spirit. The whole place had a feeling like they were unexpectedly open. Tristan played with a boy about his age nearly the whole time but soon we hiked back. We stopped at the liquor store on the way back to get several large bottles of water – we had ran out of water on the boat! We ended up going over to the marina dock the next morning to fill up with water.
But the weather wasn’t cooperating so we rented a car and explored Little Exuma. Driving on the left side of the road was quite the adventure in itself but when we turned off the main road to see a historic sight we got our first view of the water at the top of a hill and it was amazing – such beautiful shades of blue for miles on all directions. They say the Exumas are known for the water color and we certainly understand why. The tombs and plantation we saw were nothing to write home about but our lunch at Santana’s Grill Pit was extraordinary in every way – right on sparkling bright blue surf and fried fish to die for.
The best thing about this “waiting out the blow” at the lux marina is that with the mass of boats came kids for T to play with. Yesterday he orchestrated a water balloon fight and brought out his remote control car and the kids made an elaborate ramp from the slide and benches at the playground. Today he and his new friends had a long water gun fight.
Well I must end this or miss April’s lovely company – can’t believe she leaves Friday! Tonight we are enjoying a pasta dinner on the boat and tomorrow we head back to G Town for April’s last day/night. The plan is to enjoy that wonderful beach again and maybe catch a fish on the way there (but I’m not holding my breath!).
